Sr. Associate: Company Recruitment

Unreasonable East Africa supports entrepreneurs to grow their businesses in East Africa. Each year, we run two 10-month programs, the start of a 4 year partnership with each entrepreneur and their business. Over the next few years we plan to launch additional programs to grow more businesses in East Africa. Central to the success of our programs is recruiting the best entrepreneurs from Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Kenya. This role will lead on the sourcing and recruiting of these entrepreneurs and businesses. Some of these entrepreneurs apply directly to us, while we source the rest through our events. partners, alumni, and network.

Our approach to recruitment is soft selling and extremely relational. We invest time in getting to know the entrepreneur and their business, including and their aspirations, strengths, opportunities and needs. The focus is to ensure that there is a good fit between the needs of the entrepreneur & company and the design and support that our programs offer.


Key Responsibilities

Sourcing high potential companies for UEA programs

  • Working with our partners, mentors, alumni, team and entire network to lead the sourcing of potential companies for our programs
  • Managing the online application process
  • Sourcing potential companies through desktop research
  • Traveling to our four target countries to work with local partners to source companies
  • Managing our recruitment pipeline

Leading the recruitment of new companies for UEA programs.

  • Leading the recruitment process from sourcing to the signing of contracts.
  • Meeting with potential companies to introduce them to our programs and assess their suitability for our programs.
  • Analysing the companies information and presenting them to the management team for final decision making.
  • Leading on the logistical planning for site visits to potential companies.

Growing and maintaining a pipeline of potential companies for our programs.

  • Managing a pipeline of potential companies that are not yet ready for our programs.
  • Creating and sending a monthly newsletter
  • Maintaining ongoing relationships though calls and emails.

Planning and running recruitment events.

  • Planning and running dedicated recruitment events in the four countries
  • Supporting the network team to run organisational events to promote the UEA’s work

Supporting Program improvement and design.

  • Supporting the Director of Programs in the ongoing improvement of our recruitment processes

Supporting UEA’s Monitoring and Evaluation. This will involve:

  • Continually evaluating and reporting on the effectiveness of our recruitment process.
  • Continually collecting information and key data on our recruitment pipeline

Education/Work Experience

We understand that you may have demonstrated these capabilities in a broad variety of sectors including business start up, education, program management or something else. We are more interested in your abilities to demonstrate to us how you have demonstrated these abilities in the multiple contexts in which you have and are not limiting the ways you have demonstrated them.


  • You are educated to at least undergraduate degree level
  • You have at least 3 years relevant work experience
  • You must have at least 2 years of living and working in East Africa
